Photograph Exhibition with Kids` Photos, 3 pm

The end of the month means for us in CULTFORT the opening of the exhibition with the photos of children and young people from the month of August. August was kown as the Urban Art Month in CULTFORT, and one of the series of workshops was dedicated to photographic art. 35 children and young people from Sighisoara learned, for a week, from a young photographer from Cluj-Napoca – Ștefan Buga – how they can make, through photography, that their imagination and creativity remain immortalized… forever, following certain shooting directions and techniques. Our facilitator selected 30 successful images from the photos of the participants, and they will be admired by all of us with pride and amazement, as it happened at the end of all urban art workshops. See you all in the bastion, at the exhibition! Free entrance. Event location: Bastionul Măcelarilor, Strada Cojocarilor, no. 15

Blue Noise Concert

September 30th comes with a superb a cappella concert by the Blue Noise band, with 6 unique voices who will perform for the first time in the Butchers’ Bastion. Marina-Alexandra Arsene (soprano), Elena Moroşanu (mezzo-soprano), Ana Dubyk (alto), Mihail Grigore (tenor), Bogdan Tudor (bass) and Denis Bolborea (vocal percussion/beatbox) form the “laboratory of voices” where they experiment, explore and playswith a diverse range of sonorities that the human voice can produce. Blue Noise is the story of antagonisms that together create an original musicality. The blue color makes you think of peace, melancholy, and harmony. Noise is the disruptive element, it brings dissonance and, lack of calm. Blue is also a reference to the mythical jazz label Blue Note, jazz being the musical genre at the base of the band’s repertoire. Noise represents all the other influences that enrich this repertoire. The two reunited tell the story of a unique formation in Romania: six voices create a cappella music like you’ve never heard before! _________________________________

Little Architect - Exhibition

The second to last day of September comes with the final Exhibition of the “Little Architect” workshop series. So, put it in your planner for that day: on Friday, September 29, between six and seven in the evening, come to the Bastion to see the works of the kids involved in these workshops. From October last year until February this year, we met 13 times with two classes of students from Sighisoara. They learned what it means to be an architect, they analyzed the facades of buildings in the citadel of Sighisoara and were urban detectives, discovering space with the help of their senses. In another workshop, they painstakingly crafted a map of their locality and even visited a real construction site. During the monument hunt, they learned what a “historical monument” means, and in the “Space and Feelings” workshop, they learned that the way we live influences our everyday life. The “Children’s City” exhibition invites you to see the models that the little architects made from recycled materials, while also answering the questions: If you could imagine a new city, what would it be like? What buildings would be there? What would the streets be like? What recreation spaces would you like to have in the city? Will there be parks? But water? Would you like a lake or a stream? Let’s see what the vision and answers of the little architects were. The entry to this event is free.

Memory Tower

On September 23, from half past eight in the evening, the gate of the Bastion will be wide open to welcome visitors eager to witness a special nocturnal event: video mapping on the Butchers’ Tower. The White Tower project aims to explore the texture and volume of the tower, highlighting the details of the bricks and the cracks of the construction, through which the light will come out. The image of the tower will deconstruct in the virtual plane, revealing a glass variant of the tower, like a kind of greenhouse or crystal in which images and memories of that space’s past are stored. Entrance to the event: ticket based on donation – 10 lei/adult. Pensioners and children up to 14 years old have free entry. Entry is limited to 50 available places. See you there.

Culinary Art Event

Come with us to a unique event in the Butchers’ Bastion, with a title appropriate to the location where you are expected: “Pig and sauerkraut”. In this presentation, we will explore two authentic and meaningful culinary processes: making sausage and sauerkraut. We will reveal how the need to preserve and savor gave rise to these traditional delicacies. Sausage: We will reveal the basic ingredients used in the preparation of sausages, including fresh meat, seasonings, and spices. We will focus on the Mangalița and Bazna pig breeds, which originate from our vicinity and offer distinctive qualities. You will have the opportunity to taste these unique sausages. Pickled cabbage: Discover the necessary ingredients to prepare the cabbage pickles, including fresh cabbage and spices. We will explore the fermentation process and the crucial role it plays in turning cabbage into a delicacy of local tradition. You will experience the unique taste of sauerkraut, rich in flavors and complex textures. This presentation will include two-step demonstrations: the sausages will be slow-cooked and smoked, while the sauerkraut will be prepared beforehand. During the sausage cooking process, we will encourage socializing and provide a buffet with a generous selection of local snacks: – Cheeses and charcuterie, combined with fresh vegetables and fruit. – Cooked delicacies, using available seasonal ingredients. You will be able to enjoy fresh bread, with a wonderful texture, prepared with local mayo. Artist in Church - Immersive Show

Artist in Church – Immersive show One of the most interesting projects recently appearing in the local cultural landscape is a unique multimedia show in Romania signed by the soloist Ana-Cristina Leonte and saxophonist Alex Arcuș.

The project was born in Transylvania, in a village at the end of the road, where the artists had a residence, lived in a Saxon house and had at their disposal, as a space for creation and inspiration, the church evangelical church of the village, a desacralized church from the 15th century. The sound melange obtained combines organic elements taken from the rural environment, with electronic breezes inspired by the acoustics of the place and the echo of the valley in which the village was embraced by the forest. The final result? A musical-spiritual journey enhanced by video projections and video-mapping made by the visual artist Andrei Cozlac, who had 4 successful performances in heritage locations (3 evangelical churches and a mansion – Apafi Mansion), 2 performances in the Ialomița cave at Jazz Cave Festival (2021, 2022), stopped unexpectedly even in a reinvented shack from Transylvania (Dominique Boutique), in the garden of the Schubz house, at the “Johnny Răducanu” International Festival, of the Palace of Culture in Iasi as part of the Sineztezia festival (2021 ), on the shore of the Emerald Lake at Magma Showcase 2022, in the Tesatorilo Bastion in Brasov (2022), Skoder Jazz Fest 2022 in Albania, Waha Festival (2023).
Concert entrance: ticket by donation – 10 lei/adult. Pensioners and children up to 14 years old have free entry. Entry within the limit of 50 available places, starting at 20:30.

Rain Sultanov & Shahin Novrasli Duo

“Beyond of Jazz” is a project that brings together 15 years of collaboration between two unique musicians of our time. A project with Kenny Wheeler in 2005, “Voice of Karabakh” album from 2014, and “Inspired by Nature”, an album released in 2017 by Ozella Music definitely strengthen the tandem of the two musicians. “Beyond of Jazz” is special in that everything unfolds on the emotions and spontaneity of two musicians, of course, with a virtuoso mastery of both. In it, the music is sometimes deeply soulful, mixed from oriental temperament to European melancholy, which transcends all the limits of music. Rain Sultanov is an important jazz saxophonist who made a huge contribution to the development of jazz culture in Azerbaijan. Not many were able to go through such a turbulent and interesting creative path, rich and full of musical events, like Rain Sultanov. He is a person whose work is always of interest to world experts.

Concert entrance: ticket by donation – 10 lei/adult. Retired people and children up to 14 years old have free entry. Entry within the limit of 50 available places, starting at 19:00.

Truverii: D`Ale Amorului

The medieval and traditional music group TRUVERII brings back to our attention the melodiousness and joy of the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, but also the freshness and originality of traditional rhythms from different areas of Europe. The performances of the Truverii are a musical journey, a “Peregrinatio” throughout the centuries throughout Europe, in which the traveling public has the opportunity to meet rhythms from Transylvania, with songs dedicated to the Holy Mary from the 13th century from the collection “Cantigas di Santa Maria” by Alfonso X or “Libre Vermell de Montserrat”, the music of the troubadours that animated the medieval courts, but also the taverns of the time, with dances such as the tarantella and pizzica from Southern Italy, dances from Estonia, Occitan, Breton love stories and Scandinavian legends. Their music conveys the zest for life, humor, and goodwill that animated medieval towns and popular celebrations. The relationships between men and women have always been important subjects in the artistic illustrations of traveling troubadours. The ambulants of the past centuries made fun, either musically or through small theatrical skits, of these amorous and conjugal events, found in their passage through fairs and villages or even experienced by them. The show unites several stories of medieval social and conjugal life told either musically or theatrically. Entrance: ticket based on donation – 5 lei/adult. Pensioners and children up to 14 years old have free entry. Entry within the limit of 50 available places, starting at 19:00.

Skepsis Theatre: The Recipe For Happiness

The Skepsis group is a successful experiment started in 2002 within the “11 Decembrie 1918” University in Alba Iulia and transformed into a long-term project. The group has grown through continuous education and training and experience, shaping an original approach and a style of its own. With a diverse performance repertoire (medieval farce, Commedia dell’Arte, classical theatre, realistic theatre, absurd theatre, contemporary and original performances), the group has its own theater school for young students. The play from the CULTFORT project is a performance in the genre of Commedia dell Arte, which respects the specific rules of the genre: simple plot, improvisational passages, typologies of characters, clever humor and twists or fast pace. The doctor, as always, is willing to offer his services for a fee, this time has to solve a couple of problem that highlights gender stereotypes. Entrance: ticket based on donation – 10 lei/adult. Retired people and children up to 14 years old have free entry. Entry within the limit of 50 available places, starting at 19:00.

July 14, 7:30 pm, Butchers` Bastion

TACT Theatre: „One goat, two fawns and a wolf”

Come to see another play: “A Goat, Two Fawns, and a Wolf”, on July 14, from 19:30, directed by Nelu Roman, with the actors of the TACT Troupe from Sighisoara. The show is an adaptation of the well-known story “The Goat With Three Fawns” by The Romanian Author Ion Creangă. Contrary to the story, in our show we meet only two fawns. Another difference is that we are dealing with a happy ending in the show, so no fawns become food for the wolf. The two mature characters, the wolf and the goat, appear in front of the audience in the performance of live actors, and the little ones come to life with the help of a puppeteer. It’s an engaging show featuring music and dance, a show that appeals to children, parents, and grandparents alike. Entrance: ticket based on donation – 5 lei/adult. Retired people and children up to 14 years old are welcome to enter for free. Entry within the limit of 50 available places, starting at 19:00.

„Cănuță, om sucit” - Show with puppets and actors

Friday, June 23, from 6:30 p.m., it’s time to meet again in the Butchers’ Bastion for a round of theater. The NEW Theater comes with a show in which the objects in the house come to life and become characters together with the actors. Fighting yourself and those who want to discourage you can turn you into a twisted person. Canuță, our hero, tries to find his way through decisions, changes, and… bad luck. We will have a show about Marginalization. Come and see one of the few adult puppet shows in Romania. The theater troupe’s unconventional adaptation, based on I.L. Caragiale’s story, aims to recreate with humor, an authentic air of the slum, but with a much longer beat. A comic show, in Caragiale’s taste, but which innovates the writer’s famous creation by bringing in dolls, common place objects from every man’s household. Come laugh at sprinklers, hammers, shovels, and more like you’ve never done before.

Jazzpar Trio Concert

On June 18, we open the gates of the Bastion for a concert with the Jazzpar Trio. Half past seven in the evening, it’s the time when fine music will be heard over the walls of the medieval fortress. We still hope you get a seat inside the Bastion, from there you can see and hear the concert the best. Show entrance: 10 lei/adult. Children and pensioners have free entry. Tickets will be purchased on-site, within the limit of 50 available seats, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Jazzpar trio band brings to the music scene the sound and charm of Django Reinhardt’s 1930s Paris. A member of the Manouche clan, Reinhardt was inspired by American jazz to which he added elements of originality, thus giving rise to a new complex musical style: gypsy jazz, also known as manouche jazz. The Jazzpar project is the realization of a common dream that the three founders of the band have nurtured for several years. Each of them has consistent baggage of experiences on the music scene, tackling different genres, from rock to flamenco, jazz, funk, and even electronic music.

June 16, 5:30 pm, Butchers` Bastion

The Piticot Theater from Arad comes to town with the puppet play “The Curious Elephant”, an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling, a story about curiosity and friendship. And we can tell you that in the main character of this story, we find the characteristics of any child – curiosity, naivety, spontaneity, or joy. Like the baby elephant, the cast is happy and eager to meet you, kids! Show entrance: 5 lei/adult. Children up to 14 years old can enter for free. Little Architect in Sighișoara

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, we will meet with third graders from the Joseph Haltrich School to discover together what architecture is.

Together with an architect, the children will make models and learn the history of this place, an essential thing in a space as rich from this point of view as Sighișoara is.

During the 13 workshops, the children will start seeing new things in this special place where they live and learn what it means to practice architecture. They will pay more attention to the architecture and the natural environment of Sighișoara. They will start noticing every day what they don’t even see now. All this will happen through play; children will measure their city, will act as urban detectives, and practice fun learning.

These workshops, which will help children become more aware of the space they inhabit, will take place weekly at school and during the walk through the citadel. The workshops are part of our project Cultfort – Urban Cultural Fortress, through which we are preparing the Butchers’ Tower & Bastion to become a space for cultural events in Sighișoara.
