The Mihai Eminescu Trust

The Mihai Eminescu Trust (MET) is an organization with its headquarters at Cojocarilor Tower in Sighisoara. MET’s mission is to preserve and revitalize Romania’s cultural and natural heritage. The foundation manages to do this by generating sustainable economic development and local social revitalization. The foundation has been involved in over 1300 projects, most of them implemented in Transylvania.

Who do we work for?

We care a lot about preserving and promoting the Transylvanian heritage.
This is why for the last 23 years we have been actively and permanently involved in its revitalization. But for a heritage to be healthy and sustainable, the people who live around must also be involved, so our projects do not stop at architecture. More and more of our work focuses on communities and the relationship that the inhabitants of these villages build with their heritage.

For us, heritage also means a lifestyle with traditional values, so we strive to develop projects that support the local circular economy and improve the local living standards.

Who are the beneficiaries of our activity? We could answer in several ways: the rural communities of Transylvania, our collaborators from the villages, the city of Sighișoara, hundreds of children, the architectural heritage, the guests who visit our area or the young forests and secular oaks.

If we had to pick only one beneficiary of our daily efforts, this would be Romania.

ABOUT OUR GRANTS

The EEA Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe. There are two overall objectives: reduction of economic and social disparities in Europe, and to strengthen bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics. The three donor countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA Grants amount to €1.55 billion. More details are available on: www.eeagrants.org and www.eeagrants.ro.

RO-CULTURA is implemented in Romania by the Ministry of Culture through the Project Management Unit. The Programme aims at strengthening social and economic development through cultural cooperation, cultural entrepreneurship and cultural heritage management. The total budget amounts to almost 34 million EUR. For more details access: www.ro-cultura.ro
